Dr Hostland’s Experience

Dr Hostland began her training as a junior doctor at Nepean Hospital covering the spectrum of the hospital. A highlight of this period was her role in the Nepean Sexual Health Clinic where she supported minority groups in challenging circumstances. This period played a significant role in solidifying her appreciation of the importance of social care in overall patient wellbeing which she carries forward today in her role as a GP.

Following her time at Nepean, Dr Hostland continued her training at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney as an RMO (Registered Medical Officer) where; alongside rotations at the Palliative Care unit, Kinghorn Cancer Centre and St Jospeh’s Aged Care & Rehabilitation; she had the opportunity to work in remote medicine within the Solomon Islands. This was a challenging and enriching experience that fundamentally shaped her approach to patient care.

Dr Hostland then shifted her focus to General Practice training on the South Coast of NSW where she continued to serve the community through her work with the Aboriginal Medical Service in Nowra until going on maternity leave in mid 2022.

In 2022, Dr Hostland relocated to Sydney’s, Northern Beaches with her family and has begun welcoming patients to South Steyne Medical Centre in Manly where she continues to see a diverse patient group and strives to provide holistic and comprehensive patient care.

During the second half of 2023, Nikita set her sights on regional and rural GP work taking some time away from South Steyne, to work across regional New South Wales and Queensland.

She also enjoys teaching and is currently leading clinical based learning tutorials for medical students at Royal North Shore Hospital. From mid 2023, she will be a clinical supervisor to students of Macquarie University in their GP training.
